Follow in the footsteps (or linework) of Jan van Eyck, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer and Raphael! Silverpoint is a traditional drawing technique using a silver-pointed instrument on prepared paper, creating a fine, indelible line composed of metal fragments. In this three-day workshop, students will master this beautiful, perplexing technique. Artist Caterina Leone will demonstrate the different surface and priming options, and students will create a botanical drawing, leaving with a thorough knowledge of how to draw with silver. We will experiment with other metals and their different effects and oxidisation; best working practices; troubleshooting, and many more tips and tricks learnt over her years of familiarisation with this ancient technique. Day one will be an introduction to the medium, with a stylus and other drawing instruments created from supplied silver. The second day, students will work on their artwork with guidance from Caterina, and on the final day, students will learn how to add colour to their drawings with the addition of watercolour and pigmented grounds. Suitable for all levels of drawing skill from beginner to advanced, with drawing tuition optional. Students will leave with a finished botanical artwork and their own silver stylus to keep.
